One of the hallmarks of ‘Anglo-Catholicism’ is its simple, faithful and systematic proclamation of the Christian `deposit of faith`, with zeal, confidence and devotion. For generations, the Catholic Faith has been presented, not merely as ‘revealed Truths’ to be intellectually received, but as liberating beliefs to be lived out in love, and enjoyed in relationship with God in the Church. This re-issue of Father Carleton`s 1924 classic is not an invitation into nostalgia; rather, it is a fresh opportunity for Christians (and seekers) to discover a reasonable, orderly account of the essential and fundamental Catholic teaching.
In twenty short sections, the reader is presented with what the Church believes, and offers through the Sacraments, and then, once embraced, how one can live out that life of faith. Whilst the style (and print) is understandably ‘out-dated’ and certain emphases might disquiet some readers, yet the author’s Biblical knowledge, orthodox teaching and spirituality remain as vibrant as ever. This book which ‘delivers’ the Faith with such loving conviction will always have converting power.
