There are many fascinating things about the writings of Saint Bonaventure and perhaps the most important of all is his quite special relationship with Saint Francis of Assisi. I know of no other example in Christian history of a major thinker and writer, as Saint Bonaventure certainly was, being in such close and intimate contact with a very great and very original saint, as Saint Francis certainly was.'
